Discovery and UX Research

Research Goal

Engage with the users to explore their needs and current pain points with the current online platforms they have been using in this retrospect.

Research Interviews

I hired four friends who frequently lend and borrow money from their social circle. They all expressed dissatisfaction with their current method of tracking balances and were enthusiastic about the project.

Ideation & Design

Feature prioritization

  • Display the total amount owed/lent on the main page.

  • Easily accessible positive/negative balance for each friend from the dashboard.

  • Easy addition of new transactions.

  • Ability to approve/decline transactions saved by another user.

  • Simple payment and payment request pages.

User Flow

Based on the UX research, analysis, ideation, and quick sketching, I followed a simple ideation scheme, where a user can

  • Login/signup

  • View friends on the dashboard

  • Search for a friend to add to their social circle

  • Add/approve a transaction

  • Send/request payment

High-fidelity clickable protoype

High-fidelity prototype showcasing the user flow representation for Social Wallet's interface design.

I designed a logo for the app and created a high-fidelity prototype featuring simple visual styles and familiar, clickable CTA buttons.

Usability Study

I recruited 4 users to participate in a moderated usability study, which was conducted remotely via Zoom and recorded for future reference. I provided prearranged tasks and observed the users' actions during the test, noting any pain points or areas for improvement.

Problem statements and solutions for enhancing the project and aligning with Social Wallet's goals.

New Iteration & Usability & User Impact

To enhance the user experience, I iterated on the design by incorporating insights from a usability study. I repeated the usability study and assessed the user impact by utilizing pre-determined key performance indicators (KPIs) as metrics for evaluation.

100% of our participants successfully completed the task of seeing their account history immediately. The success rate has increased by 50%.

100% of our participants felt fully confident that they chose the bank account for the money transfer and they hit immediately to “Transfer” CTA button.

The new iteration increased how fast users achieve the task by 35%. The average task completion time has decreased from 31.2 seconds to 10.8 seconds.

Final iteration

Increase the button sizes for users to tap accurately

  • The back arrow button

  • The “UNDO” button on the Pending Transactions page
