Fatma’s Kitchen

Work in progress.

Fatma’s kitchen is a local food delivery business specializing in Turkish and Mediterranean cuisines.

The business, https://fatmaskitchen.net/, offers

  • pre-planned menus on the website that are available on weekdays.

  • catering and special events ordering services through its website where customers can request special menu items from a wide variety of meal and appetizer choices.

With this study, we want to improve the online presence of the website—along with a mobile-responsive and easy-to-read menu—and enhance the user experience for users to order from the weekly menu and catering menu.

Research Questions

Behaviors

  • How do they order food from the website?

    • How often do they order?

    • How is their experience?  A walkthrough of their online ordering behavior.

  • How is the special event/catering ordering process?

    • Are they satisfied with the online capabilities for special event orders?

Needs

  • What is essential for a professional-looking website?

    • What are users' current pain points?

    • Which features and functions of the website are practical?

  • Do users need an improvement to the current platform?

    • How do users feel about existing products of other meal delivery services?

Recruited 3 participants, who previously used the business’s website, https://fatmaskitchen.net/ to order meals and create special event orders.

Affinity Mapping

Ideation

Based on the user interviews, I focused on four design choices:

  • Cleaner design with a header that the users are already familiar with.

  • Responsive design with mobile design improvements aiming to fix current pain points.

  • Creating a design such that ordering for catering and special events is now easy.

  • Changing a color scheme with brighter, lighter, and softer colors for aesthetics and users’ delight.

Evaluation of Design

I set up Lookback's unmoderated usability study with pre-assigned tasks to complete. 6 users participated in the study. All users have previous experience using the Fatma’s Kitchen website.

Design version 2

I implemented design improvements based on the usability study findings and a brainstorming session for identifying problems and potential solutions.

WORK IN PROGRESS

I am currently running a usability study round 2.
